Chemical fire at Printca Graphic

A chemical fire at PCB manufacturer Printca Graphic’s Danish facility in Aalborg facility caused a production stop during the night.
The fire started in an acid bath which is used in the production of PCBs.

– It unfortunately seems like we are facing a comprehensive and expensive cleanup. The amount of soot has been high and it is made worse by the fact that the fire occurred in a chlorine compound, which is corrosive to metal. This – unfortunately – has affected several of our machines, says Jan Nielsen, director of Printca Graphic to local media Nordjyske.

The company has started working on the cleanup, which is expected to take weeks. This also means that part of the production is at standstill – for how long is uncertain at the moment.

A statement from Printca

Monday morning a fire in a copper plating line has caused that our production of Printed Circuit Boards has been stopped.

The small fire in a plating tank was handled by the local fire department and no staff sustained any injuries.

The fumes from the fire has though caused some smoke damage in the chemistry area, and a cleaning procedure is necessary to get the department operative.

It is currently not known when production can continue in the plating department, and when a replacements plating process can be established.

A full assessment is being carried out and we will up-date the web site with the current situation. We will contact customers with ongoing products to inform about consequences as soon as possible.

Please bear with us at this very difficult time.
